Sticky Toes

Put Isaac's socks on. Put Patrick's socks on. Put Patrick's socks on again. Look for Sam's socks. Put Sam's socks and shoes on. Find other stuff. Look for socks Sam just took off again. Put Sam's socks on again and try to find his shoes.

"Patrick!" yelled exasperated Mom, "I just put your socks on! Why in the world did you take them off again!" (Yes, Mom was losing it...) "I needed to put a sticker on my toe!" Patrick earnestly replies. I tried hard to be mad still but the absurdity of the answer won out and I started laughing.

Mom, take a picture of our funny hats!

[Mom] o.k.!

"Mommy, what's inside the moon?" The question caught me off guard but Patrick was standing there clearly waiting for an answer. I considered. What was inside? "Rocks," I told him, "Lots of rocks." Paddy thought about this for a second. "Are there trails on it?" he replied. Again I was scrambling. How do I define trails? Lots of rocky paths? Following footprints from astronauts? "Yes, there are some trails," I decided. Patrick walked away, apparently satisfied, on to other things again.

I still sat there wondering about his question. Half the fun with kids is re-examining the world around you through their eyes. This time I was less prepared than others. How did Patrick know that the moon was a sphere, not a disk? Why would he wonder what was inside the sphere? How did he know it wasn't the size of a tennis ball, or a balloon, or even a trampoline? Big enough for trails? I didn't remember letting him know any of this. He was willing to accept, with absolutely no proof, that the moon was filled with rocks and had hiking trails. It takes a leap of faith to do that. Something that we as adults have trouble doing. (Yup- I always want proof!) Faith as a little child, indeed.

Cheesy Noodles and Blueberries

I put the blueberries out with lunch and they decided to
go gourmet on me. Thus, white cheddar noodles with
paprika and blueberries.

Cheerios Parking Garage!

I had to post this as it took about 2 min. from conception to
ready-to-go. And I think I'm going to get a lot of bang for
the buck out of this one. The boxtabs are the ramps, I made
parking spots with a sharpie. The whole thing's taped right
to the coffee table for stability.

As a bonus, Cheerios come with some cool lego cars right
now. I think next time I'll save up two cereal boxes and
make a two-level one. That should be fun all over again. :)

When Mom's Sick

We get bored...

I almost caught Sam before he tried to drink the rest of the prune juice, but he spilled it on the carpet.
Then I almost caught Paddy & Isaac before they squeezed my (blue, gritty) face scrub into the vent.
Then, I almost caught Sam before he pulled the papers from the computer desk and threw them everywhere.
Luckily, I turned around while I was cleaning up the papers and saw Sam. He was suspended in the gap between the couch and half-wall, one arm on each, with a bright yellow smiley sticker on his forehead, babbling what could only be, "Mom, I can't quite reach kitty's food? Mom?" He fell into my arms. (and where do I put the couch now?)

Good thing I'm feeling better now, huh?

A History of Sinks

Why I can't leave the stepstool up...

He wants to wash his hands like the big kids...

What's Wrong With This Picture?

A little quiz! Do you see it? No, it's not the cat food, I left
that there. Hey, what's that orange piece of plastic? I
walked by it twice wondering what toy that went to before
realizing the truth. Things clicked together in an instant.
The plastic bag in the sink...did I throw that in there? Weird.
Patrick running suddenly upstairs while I was helping Sam
and then re-appearing a couple of minutes later. Aha! That
little mouse! That's my CHEESE!

The extra-large sharp cheddar block, complete
with gnaw marks. I stuck it in a bag and put it
in the fridge, we'll see if anyone notices...
